What is Shuttering Material?
Shuttering (also called formwork) is the temporary framework that holds wet concrete in shape until it hardens. Once the concrete sets (usually 7–21 days), the shuttering is removed and reused. For a house slab, you need three main things:
- MS Plates or Plywood — The flat panels that form the underside of the slab
- Prop Jacks — Adjustable steel poles that support the panels from below
- Chali / MS Channel — Horizontal runners that the panels rest on

For a 10ft × 12ft room slab (120 sq.ft), you typically need:
- 8–10 Prop Jacks (spaced 1.2m apart)
- 10–12 MS Plates (3ft × 2ft) or equivalent plywood sheets
- 6–8 Chali runners (8ft length)
